On Saturday, October 27th we hosted our 35th
Annual Sigma Chi Haunted Mansion. This year we were able to
raise and donate $800 to The Children's Miracle Network - Hurley
Hospital Ward. Thanks to the help of brothers and friends, we
were able to reconstruct the house from regular living conditions
to a night of terror in just 11 hours. It is truly amazing to
see how much can be done for the community, when a little hard
work and several people come together for a good cause. This
proves that we can make a difference in our area!

Derby Days 2007 Winners- Alpha Gamma Delta
Recently the Zeta Theta Chapter of Sigma Chi held their
annual Derby Day's competition that raised a total of $1,965 for the
Huntsman Cancer Institute. Derby Day's is a competition between the
sororities and independent ladies of Kettering University, that brings the
brothers of Sigma Chi and the young women of Kettering closer together,
and more importantly, to raise money for a worthy cause. The Huntsman Cancer
Institute at the University of Utah, founded by Jon Huntsman a Sigma Chi
Alumnus, concentrates on personal care of their cancer patients utilizing
their staff of scientists, doctors, and nurses to aid those in need. The
Sigma Chi Fraternity would like to thank all that participated in Derby Day's
and look forward to creating more fond memories, and raising more funds to
aid brother Huntsman in his goal.

I would like to congratulate the newest Zeta Theta
members, Evan Hall, Jacob Ulmenstine, Dan Smith, Blake Steuwe, Jacob
Siegwald, Kirt Poff, Kenan Kurtovic, Eric Schlaupitz, and Robert Stacey.
These fine young men were initiated into our chapter on May 19th, 2007.
I'm confident that these men will use the tools necessary to carry on our
chapter's strong legacy we all cherish as actives and alumni. I want to
thank my Kustos, Andrew "Rudy" Melisz who without him, a spectacular term
would not have been possible. I would also like to thank Brothers Bob
Waymouth (Hobart College, NY) and Stu Gruber (Hanover College, class of
'62), for their honorary appearance during our ceremonies. Your
presence at this special event, demonstrates to the new initiates that Sigma
Chi is a lifelong devotion, not just an undergraduate experience. We were
pleased to see you had a great time, and hope that you will visit again in
the near future. We want to dedicate this years Initiation, to our fallen
Brother Barry Van Vleck (GMI '65). His past participation has helped
us to improve as a brotherhood in several different ways. We thank him for
holding the Zeta Theta Chapter close to his heart for all those years; he
will be missed by all. All honor to his name!

According to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic
Saftey Association) 16,885 people in the U.S. died in alcohol-related
motor vehicle crashes, representing 39% of all traffic-related deaths
this past year. A number so astounding sometimes does not always reach
or effect the decisions of some young people in regards to drinking
and driving. The Zeta Theta Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity tried
to convey this message to its undergraduate brothers and other students
at Kettering University. The Chapter welcomed Shirley Walker from MADD
to pay a visit to the fraternity house and tell her story.

Corey Neil, Shirley and Tony Walker at the Sigma Chi house.
Shirley conveyed the strong message of how some poor
decisions made in a few moments can ruin one's life and their family's.
The undergraduate brothers were very appreciative of Shirley's message
and encourage all others to follow their risk management policy in
regards to not allowing impaired drivers to leave the house at any time.
Matt Jacobs a graduating senior from Holland, Michigan said,"I felt that
by attending an educational MADD speaker we continue the improvement of
our risk management and our overall safety on campus and within the
Greek community. This experience is one that will not be forgotten
quickly by the Zeta Theta Chapter.

The Zeta Theta had its Alumni Weekend celebration
this past Saturday on May 5th 2007. The day started out with the
Bulldog Battle at Woodfield a golf outing that included many Sigma
Chi alumni, undergrads, Kettering faculty and Dr. Liberty the President
of the university. After golf, lunch, and awards ceremonies, all
brothers were welcomed back to the house for catered dinner, games,
and old friends. The alumni were impressed with new renovations in
the living room, chapter room, O.Q, and the BARTS. This event will now
be an annual event interchanging event days between A and B section.

A True and Loyal Sigma Chi Passes
It is with great sadness we announce the

Rochester, NY. He participated in the founding of the Zeta
Theta Chapter on November 10-11, 1963 at what was then known
as the GM Institute and now is the Kettering University,
graduating in 1965. He went on later to become Grand Praetor
of the Northwestern New York Province. Brother Van Vleck
participated in many initiations and brought his unmatched
experience to the Zeta Theta house to educate the
